Scarves

Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring. I am always wearing a scarf. My scarves are a part of my personality, my identity. I feel nude when not wearing one.
I like my orange, white pastel green scarf, it is like a sunshine. All my various red ones that I can wear with my red eyeglasses. But the famous one is this heavy and large light beige scarf that is mostly part of my winter daily outfit and NEVER leaves me. Where did I buy it? Somewhere in Paris, maybe on a Sunday afternoon at the market near my home.
I love this scarf. It is warm, it is I.
I remember forgetting it at a restaurant in an airport one day. When I came back to look for it, it was gone. I finally found it in the trash, yes in the trash. I was really looking for my dear scarf. What a feeling of relief. My scarves are the only things I might have a hard time to give away if I have to one day.

Christmas break

It is raining, it is cold, the campus is half empty. It’s Christmas break.
On TV we hear that the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was repealed by the Senate but the “Dream Act” did not make it. It is a big deal but it is lost in the Christmas advertisements of the various stores.

It is raining and cold in the Appalachian mountains of northern Georgia. It is December. alright.

The only Walmart of the area is full of people wandering in the alleys trying to find the best bargains of the season. The excitement is growing while not far from here, in Haiti, children are dying of cholera. In Asia, North Korea and South Korea are trying to start a new war. Are we in a virtual world?

It is raining, it is cold and we are cold. You know the kind of cold that gets into your bones. You’re cold and it upsets you and you feel lonely, you know what I am talking about, don’t you? The weather influences your mood but you’ll survive. This is life. Then you go out and you smile at everybody like the happiest person on earth.

The rain and the cold play on one’s mood but guess what? It is raining and you are sitting in an armchair with a heavy blanket covering you, the heat is on. You are facing the window and a cup of hot chocolate in your hands, then tell me if this is not life.
