Christmas break

It is raining, it is cold, the campus is half empty. It’s Christmas break.
On TV we hear that the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy was repealed by the Senate but the “Dream Act” did not make it. It is a big deal but it is lost in the Christmas advertisements of the various stores.

It is raining and cold in the Appalachian mountains of northern Georgia. It is December. alright.

The only Walmart of the area is full of people wandering in the alleys trying to find the best bargains of the season. The excitement is growing while not far from here, in Haiti, children are dying of cholera. In Asia, North Korea and South Korea are trying to start a new war. Are we in a virtual world?

It is raining, it is cold and we are cold. You know the kind of cold that gets into your bones. You’re cold and it upsets you and you feel lonely, you know what I am talking about, don’t you? The weather influences your mood but you’ll survive. This is life. Then you go out and you smile at everybody like the happiest person on earth.

The rain and the cold play on one’s mood but guess what? It is raining and you are sitting in an armchair with a heavy blanket covering you, the heat is on. You are facing the window and a cup of hot chocolate in your hands, then tell me if this is not life.
